This program builds a structured network of trained volunteers and responders across communities.

* Training community first responders
* Equipping trained responders with emergency response tools and knowledge
* Community sensitisation and awareness on emergency response, safety, and preparedness
* Establishing community emergency response points and systems
* Setting up first aid rooms or first aid points within communities and institutions
* Linking responders to a central support system/hotline
* Supporting rapid response to accidents, medical emergencies, and crisis situations
* Strengthening coordination between communities and formal health and emergency services

Purpose:
To establish a trained and well-equipped network of community first responders that can provide immediate assistance during emergencies, reduce preventable deaths and injuries, and strengthen coordination between communities and formal health and emergency services by ensuring rapid response and basic life-saving support is available anytime, anywhere.

Community First Responders Network Sierra Leone (CFRN-SL) is a nationwide network of trained and equipped community volunteers who provide timely, life-saving assistance before professional emergency services arrive through training, community engagement, emergency preparedness, and coordinated response.

KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Deliver certified training in First Aid, CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS), emergency response, and disaster preparedness.
  • Recruit, train, certify, and support community volunteer first responders.
  • Provide trained volunteers with first aid kits and essential emergency response equipment.
  • Establish and maintain first aid points in schools, universities, hostels, boarding homes, marketplaces, communities, public institutions, and along highways.
  • Conduct community awareness and sensitization programmes on emergency preparedness, injury prevention, and rapid response.
  • Develop local Community First Responder teams capable of providing immediate assistance until professional emergency services arrive.
  • Build partnerships with local authorities, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and community organisations to strengthen emergency preparedness.
